"Breaking Free: How I Turned Corporate Struggles into a Passion for Handcrafted Sarees"
Share
Introduction
When I started my career at the age of 16, I never imagined that I would one day leave the corporate world to follow my true passion. It wasn’t always easy, and the road was filled with financial challenges, personal struggles, and corporate politics that nearly broke me. But looking back, those obstacles shaped me into the person I am today — and ultimately led me to the creation of Gruhini Silks.
The Early Days: A Dream Deferred
Growing up, I always had a love for design, colors, and textures. But life didn’t make it easy to pursue those dreams. At 16, I was juggling part-time jobs to fund my education and help my family with their financial struggles. By the time I reached my final year of graduation at Mount Carmel College, I was already working full-time to make ends meet.
Despite the hardships, I never gave up. I graduated with determination and immediately jumped into the corporate world, where I worked for 22 years. But this was not the dream I had imagined. The corporate world, as it often is, was full of politics, power plays, and personal sacrifices.
The Corporate Struggle: A Battle for Respect
My journey in the corporate field was far from easy. My senior, R___, made my life unbearable. Every weekend, I was forced to work, and zoom calls after 11 PM became my new normal. The disrespect, the late-night calls, and the constant scrutiny from my seniors created an environment of mental and emotional exhaustion.
For 12 long years, I endured this toxic environment. I was constantly subjected to unreasonable demands, belittled for my efforts, and made to feel insignificant. But deep down, my passion for design, colors, and fabric never died. The love for these creative expressions stayed with me, but I was trapped in a system that drained me.
The Turning Point: Enough is Enough
One day, after a particularly grueling period, I decided I couldn’t take it anymore. I had been suppressing my dreams for so long, and it was time to listen to my heart. I decided to walk away from the corporate world and follow my true calling — creating beautiful, handcrafted sarees. I wanted to share the artistry and skill of our weavers with the world. It was time to build something meaningful, something that honored my passion for textiles and design.
The Birth of Gruhini Silks
Leaving the corporate life wasn’t easy. There were challenges in every step. I met weavers, some of whom didn’t trust me at first. The weaving community is so rich in tradition, and I had to learn the language of both the craft and the culture. I encountered obstacles, from convincing artisans to work with me to understanding the nuances of saree design and fabric sourcing.
But every challenge I faced pushed me closer to my dream. Gruhini Silks wasn’t just a business; it became a mission. My goal was not just to sell sarees, but to celebrate the skill and heritage of the Indian weavers. I wanted to bring their art into modern homes, to share the richness of Indian textiles, and offer women something they could wear with pride and joy.
The Gruhini Silks Promise
At Gruhini Silks, every saree tells a story — a story of the craftsmanship that goes into each weave, the love for tradition, and the dedication to quality. Every saree I sell is handpicked by me, ensuring that each one carries with it the beauty of our heritage.
We work directly with weavers, ensuring that their craft is respected and that they get the fair wages they deserve. The fabrics we offer are timeless — perfect for women who cherish tradition and beauty in equal measure.
I want to invite you to join me in celebrating this journey. Gruhini Silks isn’t just about sarees — it’s about embracing culture, supporting artisans, and wearing a piece of history. If you share my love for Indian craftsmanship, I invite you to explore our collection and experience the beauty of handcrafted sarees.
